Rayshard Brooks: D.A. Charges police officer with Felony Murder.

Rayshard Brooks: A 27-year-old man lost to the hands of racial injustice and police brutality. According to Fulton County’s district attorney the now-fired Atlanta Police officer, who shot Rayshard faces a felony murder charge.

The DA, Paul Howard announced 11 charges against Garrett Rolfe, who fired three shots at Rayshard Brooks. Two of which hit Brooks in the back and another hit a car with three people inside. The killing on Friday night came amid nationwide protests calling for an end to racism and police violence against black people. In the wake of the situation, the Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields stepped down from her position.

Devin Brosnan, the other officer present at the shooting, has also been charged to court. He faces an aggravated assault charge for standing on Brooks in the parking lot.

Rayshard Brooks’s wife, Tomika Miller, addressed the media and thanked everyone for their support. She got emotional when revealing how she heard the news of the charges.

The video of the incident shows Brooks was shot by Rolfe during a chase in a Wendy’s parking lot. This happened after Rayshard after Brooks had obtained one of the officer’s tasers and was attempting to escape arrest following a failed breathalyzer test.

Paul Howard said his office talked to multiple witnesses and reviewed a number of videos and other physical evidence before reaching the decision to charge both officers involved.

  1. It is obvious to me a criminal act by the officers. Excessive use and abuse were used.
